What’s inside one of the most shared post in LinkedIn?
Overview:
Time to break it down one of the most shared LinkedIn post. Interested in Analysis and Visualisation, then it’s for you.
Most of you would have noticed the representation on the left is been widely shared among LinkedIn users. The images on your right was also once widely shared among users few months ago.
Based on my understanding, let’s break it down in detail on both the visualisations (VIS 1: Image on your left, VIS 2: Image on your right)
Key Takeaways:
VIS 1: More of a “Data visualisation”.
Indicates data collection, data classification and data organizing: For Instance: “Sales Revenue by products”.
VIS 2: More of Data + Analysis + Insights + Informed Decision [An effort of extracting actionable insights from data to enable decision making]
There is an effort,
* To connect the relevant data points to make it meaningful.
* From meaningful data, there is an effort to derive an insights.
* From insights to take informed decision.
* Last but not the least, what not to do ending up in “Conspiracy theory”?
To avoid the conspiracy theory stage (overdoing), follow the below steps,
* Know your objective or end goal. I.e. what you want to achieve?
Summarise, customise and visualise your insights, as per business problem or stakeholder requirement.
Verdict: Which representation has the right approach?
* Both the visualisations were right in their own ways, except the conspiracy theory on the right-hand side. [Sometimes conspiracy theory approach might be helpful while looking develop an innovative solution)
* There are 2 major components that could decide the efficiency of the analysis and visualisations are,
– Does it provided an actionable insights to the business function or stakeholders?
– Based on the derived insights assisted the business function or stakeholders to take informed decision?
Conclusion:
There is no one size fit all approach in performing an “Analysis” and “Visualisations”. However, if the visualisations and analysis doesn’t deliver actionable insights to take informed decisions, then it absolutely doesn’t make sense at all.
